8 Movies That Every Harley Rider Should Know By Heart
Posted on 3/5/2020 4:55:06 PM

If you haven’t guessed by now, we love everything about motorcycle culture. We love motorcycle clothes. We love motorcycle art. And you know we LOVE motorcycle movies. And that got us thinking about some of our favorites. History has blessed us with some real classics over the years (and some stinkers as well, of course) and we wanted to share some of our top picks with our fellow chopper-obsessed cinephiles.

Before we get started, let’s clear something up quickly. When we say “motorcycle movies”, we’re basically talking about a movie that is centered around the bikes themselves and we’re gonna have to take some liberties here that you may or may not agree with. There are some great movies with iconic motorcycle scenes (off the top of my head, I’m thinking of Top Gun and Terminator 2: Judgement Day). But alas, they’re not true “motorcycle movies” (though when I write up a list of fighter jet movies or time traveling robot movies, you can be sure they’ll be featured).

Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, let’s dive in.

Easy Rider (1969)

Starting off with what I hope will be a fairly uncontroversial pick. The Dennis Hopper and Peter Fonda classic has been THE quintessential Harley movie for more than half a century. We could basically end the list right here and no one would be getting ripped off. But where’s the fun in that?

Wild Hogs (2007)

I admit, this one’s probably not topping any critic’s list or anything like that. But for what it isa buddy road trip coming of age wacky mishap comedy on Harleysit’s pretty great. You might find yourself quoting this one on your next ride.

The Motorcycle Diaries (2004)

Despite critical acclaim and even a couple Oscar nods, this film kind of flew under the radar. Loosely based on the true story of Che Guevara’s childhood motorcycle trip across South America in 1952, this film is definitely worth a look.

One Week (2008)

What would you if you had just one week to live? That’s exactly what Ben Tyler has to decide in this tearjerker of a film. And no spoilers, but you know it involves buying a 1973 Norton Commando motorcycle, learning to ride it, and headed out to see the world. Pro-tip: Have the tissues handy for this one.

Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Mann (1991)

It was at this point in the article that I realized there really aren’t enough good motorcycle movies. Because this...well, it’s not one. In fact, the Mickey Rourke and Don Johnson action/heist/drama took home top (??) honors at the 1991 Stinkers Bad Movie Awards where it was named “Worst Picture”. Also, Tia Carrere is in it, because, you know, early ‘90s. Still, a motorcycle movie is a motorcycle movie and this one’s worth at least a look (if you can find it).

Why We Ride (2014)

This documentary shines light on that burning topic in the title that non-riders will never fully comprehend. They get into the history of

motorcycles and their impact on popular culture, but it’s the interviews with enthusiastsmen, women, and childrenthat really tug at the heartstrings. If you’re a biker, you just...get it.

Harley and the Davidsons (2016)

Man, The History Channel just does everything right, don’t they? When they debuted this three-part miniseries in 2016, I couldn’t get enough of it. It has action, drama, a few laughs, and since it’s The History Channel, you’re going to learn a thing or two as well.

Cool As Ice (1991)

I’m just kidding. You can skip this one.
